CHILDREN ABUSE PREVENTION & INTERVENTION PROGRAMS

Reaching Those Affected by Family Violence and Neglect –
2011-12 Annual Investment of $2.4 million in 13 programs

Prevention and intervention make all the difference. These programs reach children affected by neglect, family violence, parental drug and alcohol use and homelessness. They also support stressed families most at-risk for abuse and neglect by providing intensive case management, therapy, counseling, respite care and parent education.

Research shows that programs providing multiple support systems that ease family stress are most effective in preventing family violence, abuse and neglect.

PREVENTION & INTERVENTION OUTCOMES (from 2010-11)

Achieve
Nearly 70 pecent percent of 187 children screened for growth and development were on track to meeting milestons. 100 percent of those not meeting benchmarks were receiving assistance to reach those goals.

Acquire
Multnomah County Child Abuse Hotline received no further referrals for 96 percent of families in one Levy program within six months of completing services.

Accomplish
98 percent of children for whomo there were concerns of abuse or neglect in one Levy program received comprehensive urgent medical assessments and 100 percent of children and families in four Levy programs affected by violence developed safety plans. 

Attain
Nearly 90 percent of parents in 11 Levy programs improved their parenting skills and knowledge of child development and increased their use of social support services such as housing, food and mental health services.
