After school grantee partners share reflections

Staff from 3 PCL community partners in after school programs reflected on service delivery. Many thanks to the following guests and organizations for taking the time to share about their programs:

  • Ernie Guerrero, Open School, Step Up
  • David Contreras, Latino Network, Conexiones/Escalera
  • Pau Thang and Molly Armentrout, Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), INSPIRE

Financial update

Current 3-year, large grants end June 30, 2023, and grant renewals are scheduled to be considered in spring 2023. PCL expects sufficient revenues for 2-year grant renewals at a similar level of funding. However, PCL will receive updated revenue projections in January 2023. If new projections vary significantly from the January 2022 projections, the funding available for renewals could change. Funding for the second year of the 2-year grant renewals would depend on voter renewal of the levy before the current levy ends June 30, 2024.

Community Council update

The application process to fill the remaining seats on the Community Council launched on Sept. 16 and will close on Oct. 31. There are currently 7 people appointed to the council, and staff plan to recruit 4 to 6 additional members.

Recruitment is focused on candidates with experience and knowledge working with children with disabilities, LGBT2SQIA+ youth, youth in foster care, early childhood programs, after school programs and residents of East and North Portland. Info sessions were held Oct. 5 and 19, and there’s still time to register for an Oct. 25 info session.

An ad-hoc workgroup of 2 to 3 community members and 2 to 3 PCL staff will review applications and make recommendations for membership to the Allocation Committee.  The Committee plans to appoint members at their Dec. 13, 2022 meeting.

2022 Community Report
