Mt. Hood Community College Early Head Start

"My name is Maria, I am married and have two kids. We have happily been in the MHCC Early Head Start and Head Start program for more than three years and it has been such a blessing to be part of this family. I have been volunteering since day one in the classroom, parent meetings and Policy Council. This program came to our life when we needed it the most as we were struggling economically and my husband was working hard to become a better person fighting against the alcohol problem he had. We received many good resources and support throughout the years. Being a parent is not easy but I have learned that we are our children's first teachers and first models and that their future is in our hands. MHCC Head Start is not a preschool or day care, it is actually a family that connects with the families they work with to help them as much as possible with their struggles...We grew up as a person, as a parent and as a community member.

"With the help of our social worker and other people from Head Start, my husband was successfully able to go back to school and get certified in the VESL/Accelerated Welding Technology Program at MHCC. A few weeks before graduating, he got two job offers. He chose the best one and he is now working. I am currently taking classes at MHCC. I would like to get certified as an office assistant. My life changed for good with the help of this amazing program. I would like to thank them for what they do, not only with us but with all other low-income families. Their support and love is the key for success. Thank you MHCC Early Head Start and Head Start."
